We create your perfect home: interior design and decoration
In the world of interior design, finding the perfect balance between form and function, between aesthetics and practicality, is not always an easy task. It requires professionalism, vision, perspective and, we might add, a touch of magic. As long as these factors go hand in hand, the result will be satisfactory. Enrica Mosciaro‘s team keeps them in mind when carrying out any interior design and decoration work .
Interior design and decoration, different but complementary
The terms interior design and decoration are often used as synonyms. However, although they are part of a whole, it is necessary to distinguish between them. Here are the four basic differences between them.
- Overall approach versus individual elements. Interior design focuses on the integral design of spaces, considering functional and aesthetic aspects, including the distribution, the selection of the type of furniture or the planning of lighting to create pleasant and functional environments. Decoration is based on choosing and placing decorative elements, such as curtains. Its focus is therefore more specific and aimed at improving environments from an aesthetic point of view.
- Degree of commitment. Interior design involves a deeper engagement with the architectural design of the space. It may include structural changes, such as the choice of architectural materials or the redistribution of walls. Decoration usually involves more superficial changes and easily interchangeable elements. This, of course, does not diminish its relevance, as it is indispensable for the final result to be ideal.
- Level of preparation. Specific skills in the selection of appropriate colours, textiles and furnishings are sufficient for interior design work, with no need for architectural training. Interior design work, however, requires more extensive training. At Enrica Mosciaro, we are interior design professionals, which enables us to tackle larger projects involving structural changes
- Functionality and quality of life. Interior design prioritises the functionality of the space and the use that the people who live in it will make of it. In other words, it seeks solutions that improve the quality of life, bearing in mind the interaction between people and space. Decoration, on the other hand, is based on visual aesthetics and surface decoration. Although it contributes greatly to comfort, its main objective is ornamental enhancement.
Having clarified these basic distinctions, it should be made clear that the two play complementary roles and that they are indispensable for creating harmonious, attractive and practical environments.
Are interior design and decoration the same thing?
No, they are not. Interior design is about creating spaces that, in addition to being visually attractive, are also functional and meaningful for those who live in them. Its function is not limited to choosing the most suitable furniture or the ideal colours, but takes into account the needs and lifestyles of the clients, allowing them to act accordingly. The process involves a deep immersion in the functionality of the space, considering aspects such as light distribution, air circulation and harmony between the elements.
How do you achieve elegance in interior design and decoration?
Elegance, for us, depends on paying the utmost attention to detail and creating harmonious, i.e. balanced spaces. In reality, aesthetics comes from the fusion of different elements, such as the careful choice of materials or the incorporation of unique elements that tell a story.
Do fashions and trends influence your interior design and decoration work?
Timelessness is a factor we like to cultivate. In a world dominated by ephemeral fashions, we try to shy away from passing trends and create solid designs that defy the passage of time. Embracing the enduring allows us to create unique and personal environments that transcend the fashions of the moment.
